Edgar C. Glenn Boat Ramp
Nestled in the scenic Lowcountry of South Carolina, the Edgar C. Glenn Boat Ramp is a hidden gem for boaters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Located in Okatie, this well-maintained facility offers easy access to some of the most picturesque waterways in the region. We used the ramp for demo rides of our Atlas Boatworks 23F bay boat and it was a great jumping-off point for Lowcountry fishing.

History and Features
Named in honor of Edgar C. Glenn, a former local leader known for his dedication to preserving the region’s natural beauty, the boat ramp reflects the community’s commitment to access and conservation. The facility itself is modern and user-friendly, featuring two concrete lanes, ample parking for vehicles and trailers, and a courtesy dock for easier loading and unloading. Its straightforward design makes it ideal for both seasoned boaters and those new to the water.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) owns and maintains the ramp, ensuring it stays in great condition year-round. There is no fee to use the ramp.
Insider Tips
- Timing is Everything: Even with 60 spaces, the ramp can get busy, especially on weekends and holidays, so arrive early to secure parking and avoid the rush.
- Check the Tides: Like most Lowcountry waterways, the Okatie River is tidal. Plan your trip around high tide for easier navigation and to access more of the surrounding creeks and estuaries. A bay boat like the Atlas Boatworks 23F is perfect. It has a shallow draft, but higher sides for when the wind kicks up. The rivers in the area are wide and can get pretty choppy when the wind is up.
- The entrance is weird: Depending on which direction you are coming from on Hwy 170, you may have to circle around through the Maritime Center parking lot and go under the bridge to get to the ramp parking lot. If you have a tower or tall T-top, this might be tricky, as the clearance was pretty low.
Final Thoughts
The Edgar C. Glenn Boat Ramp is more than just a place to launch your boat—it’s a gateway to the rich natural wonders of the Lowcountry. Whether you’re a local looking for a new favorite spot or a visitor hoping to experience the charm of South Carolina’s waterways, this ramp offers convenience, beauty, and a touch of history.
So pack your gear, plan your route, and get ready to explore one of the best boating spots the region has to offer. Happy boating!
