WO Thomas Boat Landing

One of the nicest Charleston area boat ramps – and possibly anywhere- is the WO Thomas Boat Landing. It’s also sometimes known as “The Leeds Avenue ramp” after the major road that heads past the ramp. The ramp is in North Charleston on the banks of the Ashley River and is maintained by Charleston County Parks.  It is about 7-ish miles upriver from downtown Charleston and open water.

What makes this ramp so nice is the layout and design. There are wide lanes, a dedicated lane for boats waiting to launch, extra docks for boats waiting to come or go, and lots of parking.

The Ramp

Like everything else about this Charleston area boat ramp, the actual launch lanes were super wide. Despite there only being a dock on either side, you could definitely put 3 and maybe even 4 vehicles launching at the same time. I’m not sure what local ramp etiquette says about that, but you’ve got the space. Our 23′ Atlas Boatworks 23F bay boat had no problem with the launch. The ramp surface was great, and again, tons of space.

Parking is another win for this ramp. We counted over 70 spots for trailers plus some for individual vehicles.

Conclusion

Based on the design, usability, and location, this boat ramp is a winner in our books. In addition to all of the other features we’ve talked about, it has covered picnic tables and benches near the water. Throw in towering oak trees with Spanish moss blowing in the breeze and this ramp is one of our favorites ever.
